Overclocking Performance At Microcenter On A Budget

Hello Everyone. I originally bought an FX9590 and a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 R5. I ran into stability issues trying to overclock anything over 4.8GHz. The VRM's were getting too hot with the board and it would shut off in seconds in Prime95, so I figured that I might as well give a shot to Intel the next go around. I next tried the Intel 4790K along with an Asrock Z97 Extreme4 motherboard. The motherboard couldn't read any of my RAM on any slot on either channel. Not even one stick of it when I had no issues with RAM on any other board. I will RMA the board and the CPU just to be safe. My wife is starting to come down on me on build cost, but she does want me to have a good system that performs well. I have these items now with my returns through Gift Card at Microcenter. Most of the Z97 motherboards in stock seem to be "Open Box", so I don't know how much that I trust them. My best options right now balancing the cost with trying to spend very little more or equal to what I already have invested are as follows. My current investment is approximately $375 dollars so far.

FX 9590 with either an "Open Box" Asus Crosshair Formula Z for a total of $323.98. I could also go with a new 990FX Sabretooth board with the FX 9590 for a total of $329.98. Each of these options can allow me to get 16GB of more RAM to equal the project total. I could also get a new Asus Crosshair with the FX 9590 for a total of $409.98, but that is probably bordering too high in budget than I am willing to spend.

The Intel 4790K combined with the current Asrock Z97 Extreme4 comes to a total of $375. I can get the 4790K with an Asus Z97-A "Open Box" motherboard for $371.95 total. The next option is an "Open Box" Z97 Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 7 motherboard for a total of $379.95. The last option is a 4790K with a new MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition motherboard for a total of $379.98.

What do you think is the best option out of the above? I only play Star Wars games when it comes to gaming. The computer is mostly going to be used to record clients in my studio, so reliability is important. Again, Cost is starting to become a factor. My other system specifications that I already own are as follows.

EVGA 1600w Platinum Power Supply
R9 295X2 Graphics Card
Define R4 Case
32GB DDR3 RAM
Cooler Master Seidon 240M Cooler

Thank you for your help everyone. Going to Microcenter is over an hour drive each way from my home, so I really don't want to have to make any more trips for awhile after this next one, even though I enjoy working on computers. I truly appreciate it.

If anyone has any feedback on these options, I would appreciate it. I am going to MIcrocenter today. I will also be overclocking my build, the 9590 to 5GHz and the 4790K to 4.5-4.8GHz. I know the Z97 options are somewhat limited but that is all they have, which is why I suggested 9590 options. Thanks.
