My HP Pavilion DV6 (notebook) have an i5-2430M with Radeon HD 6400M GPU. My computer is running 32-bit system with 4GB of ram installed but 2.45GB shown available for use only. Why? I thought that a dedicated gpu will have and dedicated vram also. Is this the thing that make it show that only 2.45GB use-able or 1 of my ram stick have problem.

Solution

Right click on any area on your desktop
There should be something called graphic properties.
This will open the catalyst control center.
Which model of HP Pavillion DV6 do you have?
There are model that come with NVIDIA or ATI graphics card.
You can look for more information on your laptop.
Start menu > search box > type "System information"
That will give us the exact model of your laptop.
Also what is the Operating system version on your laptop?
Windows 7 ?
You can try download this driver from AMD but I recommend downloading drivers from HP since they might make some customization that is specific for your laptop.

I just checked the amount of vram in the gpu by running the gpu-z program. It said no 0MB of memory size... Is that ok? or something is wrong with the vram.

Check your graphic adapter memory size using catalyst control center.
And we recommend you installing 64 bit operating system to use all the 4 GB RAM since in 32-bit operating system some of the RAM is reserved for hardware use.(OS limitation)
