Hey, chosing motherboard for me is by far the hardest task in the building process, so please help me. Here is my rig:

case: fractal design define s
case fans: in total i will have 4 fractal design 140mm fans
CPU: i5 6600k
CPU cooler: be-quiet dark rock 3
gpu: gtx 980ti
storage: one ssd and one hdd, want to be able to put in one or two ssd/hdd more in the future
Power supply: havent decided yet
RAM: 16 gb, but havent decided which one

note:
Im not planning on having sli in the future
I want to be able to overclock 6600k to 4.5 ghz
I have a lot of peripherals, so more usb:s is better

Here is a list of motherboards i can chose between:

(Those are swedish prices in SEK, just divide by 10 and you will get the approximate prices in euros :))

Wel... Those motherboards i don't really know them more than i can read on the internet so i rather not recommend you any of them. Not because they are bad, but because i don't want to recommend you something i don't know. But the only thing i can tell you is that the ASRock Fatal1ty...

As far as i know and according to Intel's webpage, the i5 6600K works with both DDR3 and DDR4 RAM. It will run the same as any other processor using DDR3 RAM. I mean, it won't perfome worst with DDR3 apart from the fact that using a DDR3 instead of DDR4. If the difference matters? I don't really know. I guess it does matter theorically, but haven't tested DDR4 memory myself.

And about the motherboard, i'm getting the I5 6600K and the motherboard i was recommended was the Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P. It doesn't have many USB ports but i don't know how much are you willing to expend.

My peripherals use at least 6 usb ports. Fractal design only has 2 usb ports, and therefore i need at least 6 usb ports in the back so that i have 2 left for other stuff like plugging in a usb and such. Looking at the prices, it seems that ddr3 has a better price to performance ratio in generall. I picked out all the ddr3 motherboards into this list: http://www.prisjakt.nu/list.php?l=3087372&view=l

are any of them good or should i go for ddr4?

All boards in the list are atx, and as i said before i dont need sli. However the motherboards isnt expensive, and its gigabyte, a brand i trust. How well would it be for overlocking my 6600k? do you think id manage to reach 4.5 ghz with that motherboard?

also you said 2666MHz gives 2-5 fps more, but doesnt 2666MHz have much higher latency and therefore is practicly the same speed?

I dont trust msi, especially their motherboards. I had a msi laptop and its motherboard died 3 times under one year, and msi:s customer support is extremely bad where i live. Half of the year i had that laptop i waitet for them to fix it. So no, ive had to many bad experiences with msi

with DDR4 RAM version is one of the best motherboards according to Tom's Hardware Top Intel's Motherboards.

In my opinion, if you are buying a GTX980Ti and a i5 6600K you should be aiming for DDR4 RAM.

*Edit: About what you said about MSI, i have the same feeling. I've been told that MSI motherboards when working fine are among the best. But sometimes they turn out to be really bad.

looking at some prices, i could buy ASRock Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K4 ddr4 version 20 euros cheaper than ddr3. Which will probably be the amount id save with ddr3 ram anyway, so i get a better motherboard and ddr4 ram for same price. And if tomshardware ranks this motherboards as one of the best, you could probably not go wrong with this one. Im gonna be comparing it with some other motherboards, and if i cant find anything better, ill probably buy it

Most of the motherboards support crossfire but not sli, why is that?? does that mean im paying for pciexpress slots i wont even be able to use if i for some reason dicide to go sli (which i probably wont). In that case i should remove all only crossfire boards to narrow down my search

As far as I know, you would be able to run a SINGLE Nvidia card on the motherboard even if it is a CrossFire motherboard. The thing is that (and answering your question) you won't be able to run two (or more) Nvidia cards in SLI. Or at least you shouldn't be able.
