My friend gave me his i7-2600k. I was on an i5-2500k Asus P8p67 Pro.
So I gave that to my daughter w/ the 2500k still. I was thinking to swap to the i7-2600k and then put another quick build together with more spare parts. However I am stumped for the motherboard. My friend gave me his Asrock, p67 pro se. it has dried, sticky iced tea all over it. He was having random crashing issues so he upgraded. Normally I wouldnt take a chance but with his new setup he still had crashing and turned out he also had a bad hdd.
So there is a chance it just needs to be cleaned and works ok
I still have the stock unused i5 2500k heatsink so I figure I could at least try and mount up with that and see if it works.
In the meantime I tried checking and 1155 is obviously an older socket but seems nearly everything I see is micro and 2 memory slots. Is thats what to be expected?
What kind of micro cases are there?
I was going to put in a corsair tx 650psu and an old, big geforce 260 in it.
I have 2 of them but doubt SLI is worthwhile since it isnt going to be for serious gaming. It may inherit a geforce 660 but that wouldnt be for at least a year or so.

Solution
Nothing wrong with M-ATX format.
You likely give up sli, but with very strong graphics cards available and stronger coming, I would not go that way anyway.
With an overclockable "K" processor, you will want a P67 or Z68 chipset.
I would opt for Z68 based on newer tech.
Probably ebay is your best source.
