I recently got a new headset with an amp that supports Dolby Digital 5.1, (Astro A40 TR). I read that the amplifier is supposed to receive Dolby Digital 5.1 surround through a mini toslink optical cable and then output it as 7.1 surround to the headset. My problem is that I can only select DTS surround 5.1 from the advanced tab under playback devices properties. Whenever I try to test it, I don't hear anything, which I think is because the amp only supports Dolby instead of DTS. However I don't see Dolby Digital under the advanced tab although I have it selected under supported encoded formats. Does this mean my motherboard is incapable of outputting Dolby Digital 5.1? If so, is there a way to output Dolby Digital 5.1 without buying a soundcard? Thanks.
I have the asus z170-a motherboard and I'm running the latest version of Windows 10: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170-A/
