My motherboard doesn't support Dolby Digital 5.1?

I recently got a new headset with an amp that supports Dolby Digital 5.1, (Astro A40 TR). I read that the amplifier is supposed to receive Dolby Digital 5.1 surround through a mini toslink optical cable and then output it as 7.1 surround to the headset. My problem is that I can only select DTS surround 5.1 from the advanced tab under playback devices properties. Whenever I try to test it, I don't hear anything, which I think is because the amp only supports Dolby instead of DTS. However I don't see Dolby Digital under the advanced tab although I have it selected under supported encoded formats. Does this mean my motherboard is incapable of outputting Dolby Digital 5.1? If so, is there a way to output Dolby Digital 5.1 without buying a soundcard? Thanks.
I have the asus z170-a motherboard and I'm running the latest version of Windows 10: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z170-A/

I don't think so. Not with those headsets. You need a sound card with Dolby on it to get the right signal.

I only get Dolby 5.1 cause my speakers have their own amp

Sorry about that :(

Have you tried looking in the Realtek HD Audio manager? It should be on your taskbar in the start up area. DTS is in there, I am looking at it

also, try downloading the Audio drivers direct from Realtek, they are a newer version to what Asus have (even if the Asus drivers were released more recently than the Realtek ones. (I went through this last week)

Your motherboard can run 7.1 so it can run 5.1 as well. I only have a Z97 and it runs 5.1

It appears in retrospect the number of devices that offer Dolby are slim, and even Asus aren't supporting it on Sound cards.. mainly cause

Is Xonar U7 supporting DDL(Dolby Digital Live)?

DDL is not supported in Windows 10 (including 2 versions:RTM/TH2) ,due to Microsoft Windows 10 (RTM/TH2) does not support DDL, but it is supported in Windows 7/8/8.1.

I've checked realtek and I get the same thing: DTS 5.1 but no Dolby. I haven't checked the realtek website for drivers, would you mind sending me a link? thanks

So, does that mean I can't run Dolby 5.1 on Windows 10 with my motherboard?
