Is it a reasonable upgrade from my current setup to AMD FX8120 and Msi 7641?

I am really disappointed at my mobo for not supporting R7 360 recently. The bios is outdated. Should I stay with my i5 or move to AMD? That way, I can attach an R7 360 or R9 270. I'm a fan of Intel, however, those 8 cores interests me if it helps in gaming or improves my FPS significantly after I take a GPU. Thank you

Otherwise, I am gonna upgrade my mobo or just update my bios through experts to run the latest R7/R9 3xx cards or Nvidia 9xx series cards. Confused if Nvidia can be run cause of the disappointment from R7/R9 3xx cards.

I have been able to run all games upto now except Arkham Knight because of poor buggy FPS. I am leaning towards GTX660.

My Current PC Configuration is:
Motherboard: Gigabyte H61MA-D2V
Processor: Core i5 2400 3.1GHz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (Dual-Channel)
GPU: Gigabyte HD 5770 1GB GDDR5
PSU: Corsair VS 450
Monitor: Samsung 18.5" (1366x768)

An AMD octacore does not perform as well as an Intel quadcore in pretty much every task (yeah weird I know!) This is because AMD does not perform as well as Intel in single threaded application, at the moment Intel completely dominates AMD in single threaded application, so in only applications that normally only use a few threads(such as games) an Intel cpu will be better than an AMD cpu.

I hope this helped!

Actually its the bios I think. My bios version is 2012's F2 but their latest is F7a (beta) and stable bios is F6. Perhaps, an update to my BIOS should allow newer cards like the 3xx series run on my pc.

Yeah, thanks a lot for the info. Perhaps, an update to my BIOS will do the job for me but I need professionals to do it for me since its risky to the motherboard. Without the update, the R7 360 couldn't be detected by my monitor. Hence, I didn't buy it. Perhaps, I will be aiming for a second hand R7 260x which gives better FPS.

Thanks! Yeah, I will be aiming for i7 rather than 3rd/4th gen i5s if I am going to upgrade my processor. But for now, its just the motherboard I am afraid to install high end video cards in. Should I focus on getting an R7 260x or upgrade to a better mobo like the B75 model or sth? Don't have the budget for 4th/5th gens now so it really depends whether the 2xx series runs in it or not.
