My monitor has been going back and forth between going to sleep and just going all blue(ish black). All of this started happening after playing in the Overwatch weekend beta. I thought my GPU was just toast, but even with a different graphics card it is still having these same problems. At this point it only happens when trying to play ANY game.

Current specs:
AMD Radeon HD 5500
AMD FX 8320 8-core processor
Toshiba 1 TB internal HD
AMD 970/sb950 atx motherboard
8g RAM

The graphics card I was using was a Radeon HD 7950

I've tried cleaning and reseting everything, but still havent found the problem. I wiped everything and reinstalled the OS, but still have problems. Everything is up to date.

UPDATE: It seems to be happening whether I'm in a game or not, I've just been testing games and there appeared to be some correlation. But it definitely just did it on the idle desktop screen as well.

I have multiple PCI-e slots, but neither of them are fixing the issue. What should my next step be?

Have you tried using another monitor or even a tv in your home with the hdmi and see if the issue still happens? Also what PSU do you have? When you went to the HD 5500 did you do a clean install of the drivers?

I did do a clean install of all the drivers. I tried using the TV in my home (which runs through the HDMI, whereas my monitor is VGA) and still had problems, but that was before the clean install. I'll try it again and let you know.

Welp in moving the PC over to the TV it no longer turns on. The CPU and fans will start for a second and then shut down. Looks like it may be time to RMA the PSU I got about 6 months ago...
