Time to upgrade I'm running a Dell Optiplex 755 with windows XP.

Seems the time has come I need to upgrade to windows 7 and possibly take the plunge to windows 10 while its still free. I bought this computer a few years ago refurbished for $95 and its been good. Question is do I upgrade this one or just buy another one with windows 7 already on it. Seems like upgrading this might be more of a pain and more money than a refirb. What is your opinion?

I'm kinda partial to building a PC, but I would say get a new(for you) PC. If you feel comfortable messing with Windows, you can get a cheap key if you want.

If $95 is your budget for a PC, best to look at a slightly newer "old" PC. What are the specs of the one you have now?

hardware from the XP era is starting to struggle handling the expectation of modern usage .

The Dell has 2.8 GHZ, 3 GB ram, 80GB hard drive, Pent Dual core. Seems I need more than just a software key if I have to do a clean update. I need a bootable system disk of USB I would think.

Tiny. If it can run Win 7, it can run Win 10. But your current machine really, really needs tossing out and changing.

Or, if you wish to use that current hardware, just buy Win 10 from a valid retailer. You can get it USB or DVD.
Basically no price difference than buying Win 7 and then upgrading.

Is the Intel "Core 2 Duo" a good fast processor? I'm looking at a refurbished Dell 755 with the core 2 duo, 4 gb ram, and 160 GB HD win 7 $129 ?
