What is a Intel Xeon phi?

Ok so move this or redirect me if im wrong, but I have stumbled upon the xeon phi through an ad and what I have gathered is it is like a add on processor or computer. Can someone explain what it actually is and where it would be good. No I dont plan on using one in the near future but I am just wondering what it does and whats its point in the world.

Any actual HELP will be appreciated

That is a co processor card. for when you need ridiculous amounts of compute performance. It is used in supercomputers, I would not drop the money on one unless you need that much power and can apply it, or can get one cheap. we are talking massive data crunching on say weather forecasting, stock predictions and other things that are...

yes exactly that, if you can leverage it it is a wondrous thing, but if not, it is a really expensive headache maker when you try to code for it.
