Hello to All,

Need your assistance with this problem.

I have this machine, answering machine with old cassette system for recording voice messages.

Once power is on, following happens:

Cassette recording system starts to record, then stops, back on again, stops one more time,

and then rewind starts until the tape reach uts end. The motor under is still running all the

the time.

No tone from headset, and phone wall jack is connected. Buttons on the base make no diffrence

when pressed. One of the transistors, on the left side of the MB, nears power supply, with heatsink

is HOT, very HOT all the time.

Full name of the machine: LOGIC A-TEL 1
S/N: 48279
German Product

Link to similar machine under. Also pics of device inside and outside.

Thanks a lot in advance.

There could be multiple failures caused by one initial failure.

If for example, the "hot transistor" is the only problem you would need to identify a matching replacement product, desolder the old transistor, and then solder in the replacement. Not hard per se but does require the necessary tools and knowledge. Plus some real hands on skill.

And if there were other failures consequentially caused by the failed transitor then those components would likewise need to be replaced.

All in all probably not worth the time, effort, and expense to attempt a repair. Something else could fail thereafter and you would need to go through the repair process for that component and maybe others as well.

In your situation - just obtain a new answering machine. And the new ones do not require tapes.....

Thank you for the quick response.

I m know aware of the few new things that I should take in consideration with this kind of stuff.

Anyway I m kinda person who likes to belive that this thing from 90th can still work and make some calls in 2016., tough it would be kinda cool to have it in office with all this new digital miracles right now.

I want to be a good DIY in future and always like to consider as much different solution as possible, but for this one it seems logical to be dropped and go to next one.

Greetings to you, and I appreciate your lost time and effort.

:)
