Hey guys, this problem has been going on for a while for me. In afterburner it says my cpu temps spike to ~205C (for about a sec or two and slopes back to normal) and I have massive in game fps drop as the cpu throttles back. This seems far too high to be a real reading, but I can't really connect what will cause these spikes (played dark souls 3 for hours and didn't get one, but happens every couple of minutes in Dota). I have recently tried to reapply thermal paste to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Win 10
AMD FX6350
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 evo

That motherboard with a can't support a 125W CPU; that's why the FX-6350 isn't on the list. Adding heatsinks on the MOSFETs and a fan will help, but I doubt it won't throttle at full load.
Such a high temperature usually is caused by the VRM that needs to protect itself because it gets too hot. Using an aftermarket cooler that doesn't blow air on the VRM like the stock cooler does can cause that issue on inexpensive motherboards.

The thermal margins on overdrive similarly suggest absurdly high temp spikes ~180C. The motherboard is a pretty crappy, a MSI 970GM-P21 . Is a potential solution to add some kind of fan for the VRM?
