Does a wireless access point not do what I think it does?

Sorry for the noobie question, but I am trying to extend my wireless to other areas of my house that don't get good wifi.

So I thought I could run a long ethernet cable into the problem room and I was confused about whether to buy a second router or I thought I had read I could use a wireless access point to simply use this to make a second wifi network.

So I bought the Netgear WN604 access point.

I thought I was goign to see some kind of "internet in" port for me to put this cord in but I only saw 4 Lan ports. This is making me wonder if I bought the wrong equipment as it doesn't appear to do what I thought it did.

If someone could clear up what I would need to do this I would appreciate it.

Thanks.
