Hello guys, I'm looking to build a new rig and I am puzzled on the matter of choosing between an AMD or Haswell setup with DDR3 vs a Skylake DDR4 based sistem. On the money I would spare on the expensive new Skylake and DDR4 components I would rather invest it into a better video card. Is it so much more better DDR4 vs DDR3 RAM. I know that the frequency is much higher on DDR4, but in a real world scenario (eg. gaming and so on) what does that translate to ? Is it more important to build and future proof with DDR4 or better to invest in a higher tier video card ?

To answer your question:

In gaming you will not notice the gain in using ddr4 over ddr3.

A Haswell/Devil's canyon rig with a better graphics card, will perform the same, if not better, than a current gen Skylake system (depending on your component choices of course)

IF you do have the extra cash, invest in a skylake system.

if you DO NOT and want to save the money and buy something else, you wont do any wrong by buying a previous gen rig.
