I went to a tech place in my town and they said I need a new motherboard to run my new graphics card. A
ASUS GeForce GTX 970 Strix OC 1253MHZ 4GB 7.0GHZ GDDR5 2XDVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Video Card
Today I contacted them and I'm getting a totally different story than the staff gave me. He says I need a totally new computer basically and offered to sell me one for about $1400.

My current motherboard is a
Manufacturer: Pegatron
Form factor: uATX - 24.4 cm (9.6 inches) x 24.4 cm (9.6 inches)
Chipset: Intel H67
Memory sockets: 4 x DDR3
Front side bus speeds: 100 MHz DMI (Direct Media Interface)
Processor socket: LGA 1155
Expansion Slots:
1 PCI Express x16
3 PCI Express x1
1 PCI Express mini card x1 specs

While my PCs specs are

HP Pavillion HPE Series
Model no H8-1121
Windows 10
OS build 10586.164 Installed 8 ram
64 bit operating system, x64 based processor
CPU : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 cpu @ 3.40GHz
GPU: GeForce GTX 650 Ti

From what I'm reading online my CPU should be just fine. Do I really need to buy a PC or can I just get any new motherboard upgrade that isn't obsolete? And some recommendations for one as well please. Anywhere between $100-$200 is my price range. I am not the most computer tech literate, so I put this down the best I could. Also apparently my pc case is pretty small and it's a tight fit for the card, any bigger case recommendations would be very helpful too please.
I know I probably haven't done things in the best possible way for my PC.

Thanks for any help and I truly appreciate it.

That computer is fine. You dont even need new motherboard. What I would be concerned about is if the card will fit and what power supply is in the case. Pre builds often have weak power supplies. Your cpu, mobo and ram are fine.

If I'm not mistaken the problem with the board in that PC is that it only has a PCIe 1.0 slot and isn't compatible with a lot of Video cards. It can also be pretty difficult to put a new board in those cases the form factor isn't quite right and it's difficult to attach the power button and other front panel devices. If you brought it to my shop I would probably tell you the same thing, it's time for a new PC.

You're mistaken. It came with a 2600 which came out in 2011 and pcie 3.0 started showing up in 2011/2012. Since this pc has a 2600 in it, it was made in 2011 at the oldest. There is no way it has a pcie 1.0 slot in it. 2.0 maybe. Even if it has a 2.0 slot, pcie 2.0 16x is the same as pcie 3.0 8x No card on this earth saturates that bandwidth. So as I said, no need to upgrade other than psu

I upgraded to a 600 psu, the brand is a corsair not high quality but it will do the job.
Also sorry their exact wording for the motherboard was " incompatible with the gpu. "

If it supports a gtx 650 ti which is a pcie 3.0 gpu then it supports a 970 which is a pcie 3.0 gpu. They only reason it would say not compatible is they think you have whatever power supply it came with , which may not be compatible with a 970, or the 970 physically wont fit in that case.

" It has 2.1 as does all sandy bridge. Did you disable secure boot and try legacy mode? Oem pcs tend to run into those issues." I didn't know you could do that. I just kind of assumed the store would know that.

You're right it's 2.0. I was going from memory. That board still won't work with newer cards I've tried it. We had a customer bring one in and we thought exactly the same thing as you did but we couldn't get anything newer than a GeForce 9000 series card to work. Tried a 950 and a 730.

Uefi compatibility would be the other common issue for oem but legacy mode should overcome that. I've had newer 900 series on much older core 2 era mobos work fine and those we around long before uefi came around. Your psu is fine. The issue is the mobo firmware. It might just be locked in other ways which oem is known for.
