Significant GPU Upgrade?

Hi, I have an old system lying around that I would like to repurpose as a media server, but I think that, since I might use it as a HTPC, the GPU needs to be upgraded.

SPECS:
CPU: Q9550
PSU: 450W Antec
HDD: 500 Gb Wd Caviar Blue
GPU: HD 3450

Would the GTX 750 Ti work in this configuration? Also, is it a significant upgrade?

Do not use GPU boss for a comparison. That site is a plague on the internet. It's obvious the website creators have no idea about anything GPU related. It should be apparent the second you see them comparing clock and memory speeds how much of a joke that website is

The GTX 750 is better than the 3450 although it is overkill for a media center PC. An R7 250 is more than enough for a media center and comes in at a lower price.

It's not nearly 4x the performance and even if it was it wouldn't manifest in anything a media center PC does. 4k doesn't really change anything, 4k doesn't require much resources and both cards have dedicated decoders to handle it.

Actually you can't say that for sure. There are plenty of 450w PSU models from Antec, he does not directly state his. Do not assume that everything from them is excellent.

In addition, given the age of the rest of the system it very likely that the PSU is rather old. It would be wise to state it's age. Anything over 5 years and it needs to be replaced.

The motherboard is also no listed. That CPU is very old so it's very possible to be an early PCIe Gen1, which can be kinda wonky with newer cards.
