Hey everyone I currently have the ASUS SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK2 motherboard and I have the Intel I7-4970k CPU it's been a year since I bought this set up. I was wondering would it be worth it to upgrade the motherboard? I'm pretty happy with the CPU I feel I have a few more years on it without feeling outdated. I'm just not too sure on the motherboard. Also this is a build for gaming, video editing and rendering.

Need more info just let me know! Thank you!

My full build is as follows:

CPU - Intel I7-4790k in turbo not OC
Motherboard - Asus sabertooth Z97 mark 2
Memory (RAM) - CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400
GPU - 4GB EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked
PSU - Capstone 750w
Case - Corsair obsidian series 750D

There is only 1 justification for voluntary upgrade of a motherboard. It does not do what you need it to do. Simply put, it won't accept OC so an upgrade to a Z board is necessary or it won't handle more than 4 Sata devices or an m.2 or pcie express device etc. That z97 sabretooth has every available feature of the z97 lineup, its a top line board, so realistically in the LGA1150 family, any move will be lateral, you'll be spending money on something you already own. Only a move to lga1151, 2011-3 etc and their higher performing cpus will necessitate a motherboard change.

As it stands, I'm pushing both a i5 3570k and an i7 3770k and neither one suffers from any notion of being 'out dated'. There's still many more years left in the...

Their 100% no reason to buy a new motherboard if yours is working right. Their will be no performance increase and their a chance you will need to buy a new operating system if your code will not take. Doing a fresh install of windows is almost a must.
Buy a nice SSD or a decent aftermarket CPU cooler so you can overclock some when needed. With overclocking the processor some I could see that 4790K (same one I have ) lasting 5/6 more years easy.

Thank you all!!! So its noted upgrading my motherboard will do little to none for my build, and to look into if anything my GPU. Would the 980TI be the recommended GPU to go with?

If the 970 is giving the performance you desire right now then their no reason the replace it. The 980ti is a great card if your running a 2K monitor resolution but not really needed for a single 1080p monitor. At this time I would not buy a video card with the new releases coming out toward the end of the year.

Figure out what's lacking. If the pc is taking too long to boot/load programs, maybe a decent SSD would be advisable. If you are taking forever to render maybe look into exactly what's required of the program you are using, it may work better with higher clock speeds or more ram, if your work would be easier on a larger resolution, look into better monitors like 1440p or 4k and a gpu able to handle it. Change the mouse, keyboard, headphones, speakers etc.
