I'm busy splitting an existing network into 2 networks... current config is as follows:

Router connected to DC1(ip 192.168.0.3) which has dns and dhcp on scope 192.168.0.x
DC2 has 2 NIC's (ip 192.168.0.241 connected to DC1 and ip 10.0.0.1 providing dhcp to clients)

OS's used:
DC1: win server 2008
DC2: win server 2012

I have setup routing on DC2 which is allowing it's clients to access DC1 shares using it's ip address (192.168.0.3/sharename) but if I use the hostname (server1/sharename) it can't connect.

I am also struggling to connect to the internet on DC2's clients.

Any ideas where I have gone wrong?

Yes there are switches in between, DC1 has other clients connected as well where DC2 is a "client" on DC1's network. I found a work around by adding a DNS entry into DC2's dns to point to DC1 seems to be fixing the issue... not sure if this is the right way to do it though...

Essentially DC2 is running a completely seperate domain for its clients (which are all connected to its second NIC) and DC2 is sharing the internet connection and access to shared resources from DC1's network by connecting DC2's first NIC to DC1's network.

Sorry if I am not making it 100% clear on how the network is setup, sure you can see this isn't a basic config :)
