HDD data after cloning to SSD?

So I just hooked up my new SSD and have not cloned my HDD to the new SSD just yet. That's where the question comes in, after I clone my HDD, what happens to the data on it? Is it still there as if I just copy pasted the data onto the new SSD? Or is it more or so like a cut and paste than copy paste? If it does remain on the HDD, would it be alright to delete the newly cloned data from the SSD such as pictures, videos, documents, as the files are still on the old HDD? I am not planning on formatting my HDD after cloning, as the SSD will strictly be used for booting and holding applications that take awhile to load, such as games and editing softwares. Thanks in advance.

Oh and also the SSD is Samsung 850 EVO 500GB, and my current HDD is Seagate Barracude 3TB, if that helps anything.

Solution
Still on the HDD.

It would be better to wipe the HDD, then move the data back. Otherwise you end up with two copies of windows, and might accidentally boot into the wrong one.

Okay, that clears up everything. And with that being said, it does make sense to format the HDD, I don't know why I forgot the OS would still be on the disk. Alright, I'll get to cloning then, thanks for the quick response.
