[RESLOVED] How do I change the default location for my programs to download to? ie program files from my SSD to my HD

Basically, when I download anything, the files are sent to program files (x86) or regular, on my SSD. I would like them to go to program files on my HD, and yes, I have changed all the default locations to my HD with regedit, but it still doesn't work. I have no clue why this it, but it's extremely frustrating to have to constantly move my programs over to my HD.

If there is a solution to my problem, I would love to know because I can't find the solution anywhere online :/

If Windows can read your HD, then all is good to proceed, otherwise you might need to format it. I'd suggest not to play around with regedit as it can cause stability issues. There is a far simpler way that is also very effective. I also have a desktop with SSD (which by the way is set as the boot drive) and an internal HDD for storage.

Follow these steps:
1. Create a subfolder in your HDD. This is where all the data will go into.
2. Open Windows Explorer in Desktop
3. In WinExplorer, right click on Documents, and select Properties
4. Select the Location tab, click Move
5. Navigate to the new folder you created above. Click ‘Select Folder’. You’ll be presented with a confirmation dialog box. Click yes/apply.

On the target drive, you will now see a new folder called Documents. That is just the visible name. Apparently the underlying folder name is whatever you gave it originally.

From now on, anything you save in ‘Documents’ will go to that other drive. Repeat for the other default folders (Pictures, Videos, Music, Downloads, etc.)

The way I phrased my question may have been misleading, but that's not what I was trying to solve. All my default libraries are stored entirely on my HD, the only problem is that if a file were meant to download into program file (x86) or just regular program files, it would choose the program file folders that are stored in my SSD, and not my HD. I am running windows 7 64 bit if that offers any insight.

So to sum it up, I just need files that would go to program files to go onto my HD, and not my SSD. My libraries are fine, and entirely stored on my HD like I want them.

In summary, it involves you to go to your C: drive and copy the folders "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" into your HD, and then go into regedit and simply change the drive letters. Since you are running 64 bit make sure to change drive locations on both folders in Registry Editor. This method should work under Windows 7, have tried it before without issues, seems strange if you are having issues with this method.

The thing is, moving programs off the SSD defeats the purpose of having a SSD in the first place - fast program startups. If you don't have many programs to move, I'd just uninstall and reinstall them. I would suggest you keep your core programs and applications in your SSD, and move over large programs like games and stuff to your HD. Normally during the installation you can pick the install drive and folder and you won't have to worry about the registry being in disarray. Otherwise, you might need to uninstall and reinstall and select the HD drive as download location.
