I recently bought a new motherboard, CPU and GPU - a intel 6700k , an ASRock Extreme6 and and ASUS Nvidia 970. I spent an evening taking out the old mb, memory, etc and put the new components into my case, connected the drives.

Today, I nervously turned it on, and was very happily surprised when everything worked first time, the PC booted, I went into BIOS, changed the default boot order, and booted up into Windows 10. I didn't choose any overclocking options, but left everything standard until I'd got it all working. Unsurprisingly such a large change to to the hardware, did not make Windows happy - so I booted into safe mode and thought I was going to be spending the evening either trying to get drivers working, or re-installing windows. Not the worst case.

I left the PC and went to have dinner. I returned and the PC was off - which surprised me, I hadn't turned it off. I guessed windows must have hibernated, so I pressed the power button to get things going again. PC powered up, but nothing happened. Strange. So I pressed restart - nothing happening. So I powered down by holding down power for 5 seconds - power off. I opened the case and had a look at the DR Debug display to see what might be wrong. Power on- the display sits at 00 and doesn't move.

Now according to the ASRock doco, this means that my CPU isn't properly seated. Strange it was earlier, so I check that, even taking off the hulking great noctua heat exchanger and fans. CPU definitely sitting OK, and no pins out of place.

I then tried disconnecting the GPU, resetting the CMOS, removing all but one memory module, disconnecting all the drives... Nothing makes any difference. PC still refuses to post at all. Fans driven by the motherboard don't turn on.

I have a Antec 620W PSU and I'm pretty sure it's still working, so my guess is that somehow whilst I was away from the PC the CPU and/or motherboard has had a problem and stopped working.

Given it's only been about 3 hours (max) that it was working, I'm thinking of returning it to the place I bought it for a new one. Any suggestions on how to diagnose whether it is the CPU or the motherboard that is at fault here?

Suggestions on what else might be wrong, and especially if anyone has any ideas on how to fix it, much appreciated.

Thanks.

PS - have checked with a different PSU - same issue, so pretty sure it is something that has stopped working with either mb or CPU. Unfortunately I don't have any other socket 1151 mb so can't test...
