Hello, I am getting a gaming pc and putting it in the garage of our home however I don't have much money left to hire an electrician to set up a cable to connect the pc to the router and I was wondering if you could buy a low profile cable and put it through the window to take it outside ( we are renting so don't want to start drilling holes etc. Hope you can help and please advise me of the other options that meet my criteria of:
Wired
No drilling
No professional setup

Thanks!

Sure, you can just buy an inexpensive CAT5e or CAT6 cable of sufficient length and run it through windows or AC ducts (or whatever preexisting paths you have) to make the connection. Even a regular indoor cable lasts a long time outside as long as it is not disrupted by a lawn mower or something.

Monoprice has 100 foot cables for like $12.

The usual problem with this technique is objections from the spouse, at least at my house.

The other, more attractive, but slightly more expensive method is using a pair of AV2 MIMO capable powerline adapters like the TP-Link 8010 kit for $50 or so that will give you about 200-250Mbps real world speed and low latency. This assumes that your garage is on the same circuit box as the main house. Take a look HERE for a good list of actual speeds, which correlate closely with tests on a number of the pairs that I have done. The 8010 is the same as the 8030 but does not have the pass through power connector and is a bit less expensive for that reason.
