Hey guys,

this is the continuation of this thread, in case anybody helping me there remembers it:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3036229/asus-h97-enter-bios.html
The 2nd problem there is solved, bringing me back to number #1. I.e.:

My system is up and running without relevant incident for three quarters of a year now. Some days ago I had a system freeze that needed the REST button of my casing. After that, my system entered a BIOS-Restart-back-to-BIOS-back-to-Restart - boot. I reset the CMOS, resulting in trouble number #2 (system wants me to enter BIOS, I cannot because the bloody-stupid-thing doesn't recognize my USB keyboard. Solvation by using an old PS-2 (or was it PS-1?) keyboard. Now I'm back to the loop.

Has anybody any ideas how to leave the loop? I already tried the CMOS reset ...

Thank you very much!
Cheers,
Kate

[EDIT: I already updated the UEFI to the newest drivers. Loop is persisting.]

I should ask, what windows are you running? As my solution applies to win 10...

Download this on another pc and make a windows 10 install usb or dvd: Win 10 media creation tool

Since you have Asus board and they can have problems booting from USB, I would make a DVD

Now do you want to save the current install or just reinstall win 10?

If you want to try to save it,
Boot from the usb or dvd you made
On screen after language choices, select repair this pc, not install
Select Troubleshoot
select advanced
Select repair start up - this will scan pc and try tro fix start up - will ask for logon details

If that doesn't work, restart with installer, select repair this pc again
Select reset this pc
two choices, keep files (Libraries) and settings, or wipe it all - witrher way you need to reinstall all programs again
win 10 will save files and restart, and then install win 10 again

Now if you get a message saying drive is locked, do this: Locked drive solutions

If you want to save contents, do this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

Now if you don't want to save windows or all those steps fail, do a clean install using the installer and follow these steps: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

Now if you not running win 10, I just wasted 10 minutes typing that all out :)

Hey Colif,

I don't have Windows 10, but 8.1 installed. I will give it a try, however, as soon as I can find the time again anyway.

However, I'm not sure that this will be "Edition-of-Windows" - sensitive anyway, because I never get to any operating system issue anyway. The thing locks down on the BIOS boot, never letting me see any windows at all.

So I will try. Tomorrow, probably.
Thank you very much!

Hey guys,

in case anybody still wondering about that: Colif gave the solution - it was the drive, not the mainboard. It was my boot-partition SSD having died in that RESET (with it being only 9 months old, which came as quite a surprise). I didn't realize earlier because I saw two hard drives in my BIOS and thought everything all right, but I had forgotten that during building the computer I had transferred an additional hard drive from my ancient desktop computer. I saw two hard drives, but one was the ancient one, while my boot SSD was missing. My bad.

Thanks again for your help!

Cheers,
Kate
