I know using a whole card dedicated to PhysX is a waste, but if I already have the hardware, then why not?

Okay, so say I had the Asus ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO ALPHA mobo, it only supports 2 way SLI but does have a third PCI slot, and I have 2 GTX 970's in SLI, but I have a spare 750Ti laying around. Could I throw the 750Ti in and dedicate it to PhysX? Or does a dedicated PhysX card have to be the same as the pair in SLI? Does it have to be bridged as well?

Basically, I'd like to know info about using a dedicated PhysX card (and like I said I already know it's a waste of the cards resources).

Solution
it doesnt have to be the same gpu mate, pretty sure you cant bridge 970s with a 750ti anyway, just whack it in and go into the nvidia control panel and select it as your physx.

Oh I know you can only bridge cards that are the same (other than the manufacturer). I just didn't know if a dedicated PhysX card had to be bridged with the SLI pair to work, which of course wouldn't work on that motherboard because it only supports 2 way.

But I think you've answered my questions. It's a lot simpler than I thought it would be.

I tried this with 2@1080 hydro copper and a 960 as dedicated physX and even though my hdmi output was plugged into the 1080 but the 960 was the only card working. As soon as I popped out the 960 the 1080 took over
