Hello, lost psu the other day to a surge. Had no visible damage on the mobo, only a burnt smell from psu. Swapped it out with a new psu.

When I power on fans lights flicker and fans start to spin but stop within a second. I'm guessing I lost my mobo also, reseated everything with no luck. I'm not looking for a high end replacement as I will most likely be upgrading in the next year. Just something that could turn this tower into a HTPC.

This is my current mobo

considering this as a replacement, will probably pick up new ram to fill the upgraded capacity

I appreciate any suggestions

You seem to in good hands with that new motherboard you chose for yourself. The AM3+ socket is backwards compatible with AM3 processors so even though you're fine with the motherboard, I must ask what your processor is since the motherboard may or may not require a BIOS update. If it comes bundled with Version F3 you're good, if not, you can perform Q-Flash.

When picking up ram, look for 1600MHz DDR3 1.5v kits(max supported rams is 32GB=4x8GB) since they cost the same or lower than DDR3 1333MHz kits.
