Hi guys, basically I'm building a windows XP gaming PC with fairly new hardware. Now I've ran across a few of the threads online all of which aren't very clear and end up being people trying to convince the OP to use windows 7, windows vista, blah blah blah, but I'm just here to get a solid answer, if possible.

Basically I want to use a GTX 580 with an AMD FX 8350, I've used the processor with Windows XP Pro 64 bit and it recognized & used all 8 cores, that is not my concern. My concern is if the PC will recognize the GTX 580. Someone will surely come along and say "Well nvidia has drivers for it so of course it will, you could have looked it up yourself" but that's not the issue, the issue is Windows XP not recognizing the graphics card while running through the installation of the drivers, that's what I've seen many people report with these new(ish) cards on windows xp builds, so I'm basically looking for someone who knows about this stuff or for someone who has done a similar build and knows this will work solidly.

Like I said this is a future build that I'll be making, I could switch the video card to something such as a R9 270X or anything else if the GTX 580 won't work, but I would like to be sure it will or wont before ordering it.

I can't think of any reason that shouldn't work if you are using the XP drivers (32 or 64 bit as needed) and the card is OK. I don't know if M$ still supports XP to the point that you can get all the updates to the point of when they dropped it, or not. But it may need a certain update (like a .NET) before the driver software will work. Just guessing here. I used to have a GTX 570 that worked well with XP back in the day.

Thanks much! Exactly what I was looking for, someone using a card of the same series with XP. You've helped me and I'm sure many others to come. Thanks again. :)
