UPDATE 2: My mom and dad both do demanding work that requires good graphics and speedy render times

Solution

this^ you promisse to help with chores around the house, like vacuum cleaning once a week or something(takes 10-15mins).
and that you keep up with school.

depending on how many kids the fmaily has it may be smart to make another gaming pc. it keep the kids off of dads and mom pc. the last thing they want it there kids to download a virus to there pc with all there work and home files on it if your in the 15-17 year old building at good pc now that last you trough collage.

Putting on my dad hat:
"What have you done for me lately?"

Or

"You come to me with 50% actual cash money in hand, up front, and we'll talk."

Here's an idea, why don't ask if you could use the back up and promise to not complain in the event that one of their computers somehow does blow up and they want the back up computer. You also promise to notify your parents of every download.

This option is cheaper than buying two additional computers and satisfies your desire for a computer to game on.
