I did a network test from the same website one from my laptop which came back as 0.70mbps and one from my mobile phone which came back at 53mbps... my laptop is very slow any reason why it's showing slower network speed? I use a 50mbps virigin router.

Solution
The wireless card in the laptop sounds pretty bad.

Even older 802.11b networks cards should score better then 0.7 megabit/sec. At 53, your phone has something better than 802.11g(54 megabit, but about half is used for collision avoidance). I would guess N or AC.

If your laptop has a wired network port as well, it may be worth trying that. I am guessing that it has an older wireless card and it is either not working well with your new setup or just bad(maybe just needs a driver or firmware update).

My phone is a Samsung S7 edge and my laptop is quite old it's a Advent Monza T200, I'll try it with a ethernet cable now hopefully it's alot faster

Well your phone supports nearly any wireless standard you would come across.
Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band

Your notebook(if i trust google) should support B(11megabit/sec),G(54megabit/sec),N(150megabit/sec[with supported wireless access point]). while G would not make it(collision avoidance), N should be able to handle your network connection.

Keep us posted about how the wired connection works. Also check out the notebook makers website to ensure you have the latest drivers.

The system is not a fast computer either so maybe some other software is bogging it down.

Your laptop is probably bogged down. Watch your performance monitor cpu\memory and see if they are maxing out. Ookla speed test is a lot slower on my old laptop compared to my phone. Run multiple tests as well with no other programs running or other devices connected to your router.
