For the past couple days my computer has been shutting off on it's own. I've done some research and I think it may be due to the CPU overheating, but I'm not sure. As of now, it's idling around 129 F. (54 C). Games cause it to jump up to the mid 140's. around 147 F (64 C) was the highest it reached. I've got an AMD FX-6300 Six Core Processor (3.5 GHz), are those normal temps? I checked inside the case, there's a little dust on the heat sink, but it's not too bad. (to my knowledge) There's a fan directly above the CPU, and another in the back. Both work fine. I've got a ginormous case and some OCD-quality cable management, so overall airflow isn't a problem.
I don't think it's a power supply issue, but just in case, I've got an Antec VP450. When I was building the computer, I was told that even though the power supply may seem a little weak, they said that It was a quality one and should hold up.

Windows 10
AMD FX-6300 Six Core Processor (3.5 GHz)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660
ASUS M5 A99X EVO R2.0 Motherboard
Antec VP450

Solution

That's awfully conservative when CPUs are rated (guaranteed) at core temperatures in excess of 90C at stock clocks and voltages. I wouldn't bat an eyebrow at core temperatures under 70C when under load.

That is a bit hot!
You can check the specifications of your particular CPU at www.cpu-world.com which details the maximum operating temperature for many processors. In general you should consider 60 degrees Celcius the absolute maximum for long periods, but aim for 45-50 degrees to be safe.

Now I had to check mine.. :p

All amd cpu's should stay under 65c,intel cpu's have higher operational temps like 90c.

That's 65C package temperature. The maximum junction temperature is much higher but is usually buried deep inside the thermal design specifications if not omitted altogether. Same thing with Intel: although the package temperature is only rated for 65-72C, the maximum junction temperature goes up to 105C for some CPU models.
