Hi, I was choosing between Asus and gigabyte for z170 chipsets motherboards. I realised that gigabyte prices were significantly lower than Asus motherboards and was unsure why. Can someone pls explain thx.

Solution
XMP allows for the mobo to auto set up the DRAM for you, so you don't have to manually set the data rate, timings and voltages needed to run at a rate above 2133(on Z170 DDR4 mobos), with DDR3 XMP play in starting with 1600 sticks

As far as mobos, Asus vs GB, both are good and reliable mobos overall. I tend to lean to Asus a bit as they tend to have a better BIOS and keep the BIOS more up to date for newer components ;)

I think these days, it just boils down to preference, aesthetics and features. MSI is also doing good with their Intel 100 chipset compared to their previous iterations but personally I prefer Gigabyte now. I'm currently using Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 7 and it's loaded with features and for it's price, it is really bang for buck. I was supposed to use Asus Z170-A but decided against it due to the small price difference between the two but a whole lot of difference when it comes to features.

B150 is entry level, H170 is more advanced (more features) but can't OC CPUs via the multiplier and generallty limited to 2133 DRAM, the Z170 can OC via multiplier, DRAM is generally unlimited as far as data rates it's capable of running (though the MC (memory controller) in your CPU is the defining factor on DRAM data rates. The Z170 also comes with a more expansive BIOS (largely do to the OCing nature of the mobos) ;)
