My friend wants to build his first PC but his budget is around 500 . his main use for the PC will be Casual gaming and being able to have a good upgrade path in the future . He doesn't mind using on board graphics on the cpu if a video card can't fit in the budget. other things that should be included are the o/s only he had a monitor keyboard mouse from old desktop and speakers

An example of my build was

If that gives any ideas towards his build

An OS and monitor leaves $300 for a build. Ok, you'll only have iGPU for now and the power supply will support a GTX 960 when you're ready to add a video card. I did include a decent 1080P monitor.

I think Archaic59 has it covered except make sure you have a few extra bucks available for "just in case" things. Example: extra HDMI cord, small flash drive for windows 10 reinstall and other junk like that.
