I've never had problems with my internet before today. We're suppose to have a lightning storm. I was playing League of Legends today perfectly fine no lag spikes. Few hours later lag spikes to 200ms. I called my ISP, and asked what the frank and beans was up, and they wanted to send a technician out (told them I'd get back to them on a time and date). So, the question is does lightning/weather affect internet speeds?

**I uninstalled league, restarted my modem, hardwired to my modem, restarted my pc.
** When reinstalling league my internet was in consistent ranging from 54kbps to 6mbps.

Solution
If lightning struck any equipment used by your ISP, or their upstream provider, or their upstream provider, etc., or any of the power stations or relays used by all those providers to power their equipment, then yeah it'll affect your Internet speeds.

Find your regular LoL server's IP address. Do a tracert to it. Save it or write it down.

Next time you experience lag spikes or other slowness, do another tracert and compare. Traceroute is like ping, except it gives you the response time for every piece of network equipment between you and the destination IP. It will let you pinpoint where the lag is coming from. A lot of times, it's a problem upstream.
