Approximate Purchase Date: this week or next

Budget Range: About $600 Cdn total (including shipping, after rebates)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Astrophotography photo processing (Deep Sky Stacker, Star Tools), some gaming (Diablo 3, StarCraft 2), web surfing, word processing.

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: CPU, Motherboard, RAM - Have a Silverstone 750 W Gold PSU

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: www.canadacomputers.com

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Parts Preferences: by brand or type Intel CPU, Asus motherboard preferable but not required

Overclocking: Maybe (given my needs / budget, I don't think a K series is required?)

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: Have always had good luck with Asus motherboards in my last 4 builds, but not sure if their quality has come down recently? No ASUS boards on the Toms list of recommended motherboards....

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Starting to have issues with my PC, it's going on 8 years old... time for an upgrade (running a Wolfdale E8400, 4 GB DDR2 memory)

its gonna sound stupid, especially since your needs doesnt really require it.. but for like 50bucks over budget you can actually get the 6700k should u want.. and an ASRock Z170A-X1/GIGABYTE GA-Z170-HD3P mobo, and 8gb ddr4 ram Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB/ G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 8GB (2x4GB)
total 653.98

if not you can get the regular i7 6700 (non-K) and stay on budget, which should prob help with photo processing over an i5
+ GIGABYTE GA-H170M-D3H (for Non-K version 6700)+ G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 DRAM 2133MHz C15 total
603.98

If you are going to be stacking images, you will need a lot of RAM. This is what I recommend:
