My laptop HDD failed. I have a temporary replacement. I also have a new drive. I have my drivers from that failed drive too. All I need is to know how I might be able to use my laptops product key from windows 7 again. Is there any possible way I can use that while installing windows 7 onto my new HDD? There is no possible way I can get any other information from the failed drive so I'm stuck between a rock and a really hard place. I am also having troubles getting the Windows 7 iso onto a bootable usb. Being that my old product key is activated so the Microsoft website gives me an error when I put in my product key. I should be able to get my hands on an install of Windows 7, but I'm still iffy with the product key.

Solution
If this was a preinstalled OS (probably was), and you have the OEM license key, then your main recourse is to contact the manufacturer.
This may, unfortunately, involve some $$$.

When the system was new, you were presented with the opportunity to create your own factory reset DVD.
Sadly, few do this.

Bit late but I had trouble understanding your question:.

If W7 is installed on that laptop yes, you enter the numbers on the sticker on install or you can skip and do it after install. You need the stickers numbers.

I am also having troubles getting the Windows 7 iso onto a bootable usb.
Do a Google search, you may need a different file for USB's or see if anyone you know has a USB DVD drive you can borrow and use it.

Being that my old product key is activated so the Microsoft website gives me an error when I put in my product key. I should be able to get my hands on an install of Windows 7, but I'm still iffy with the product key
I don't get it, did you actually manage to install W7 on the Hdd and laptop? anyway, if all is legit then you may have entered an incorrect number for the product key. If you entered the correct key for that laptop it should auto activate without issue. If not and it is still the correct key then call them on the activation number with the 47 or digit output on the activation dialogue and they will reset it. The key numbers have to be correct.

I've gone from W10 back to a clean install of W7 on a different HDD without any issue. It auto activated itself.

Attempting to d/l the relevant ISO from Microsoft, using an OEM license, will choke. MS expects you to get that from the manufacturer.
It gives you a message telling you this.

AHHH, I get it now! Things must have changed since the push for W10. MS used to have a site called digital river where you could legitimately download Windows ISO's versions and languages without having to input your key. I just checked it and the ISO's are no longer available. Well times are a changing!

If you can borrow a disk from someone that's all you should need. I've used them before, the key you enter will determine the version installed. Since you have the key try a local PC shop, speak to the tech. He/she may install it using your key for a few bucks. Your donation buys them lunch. Hence, your happy, they're happy, everybody's happy.
