I had an *old* core 2 Q6600@3.2 and decided to get a 8370 because of its price, and the fact that it's a powerful CPU no matter what people say. I do some video encodings and some editings as well, the 8 cores are very well used then. I play some games sometimes, all of them using the best visual configuration without any lag. Sometimes I encode and play and I don't notice any lag either.
I was able to buy more memory because of the price I got the FX, and the fan I bought will be used again IF I switch to another CPU. But sincerely, I don't see why I would get rid of my actual rig, it's a fast one, it does what I want and need, and more. The AM3+ motherboards might be the last ones before the Zen architecture comes out, but so what? I kept my Q6600 for almost 8 years, I might keep my 8370 a long long time too, it has enough inside to compete too.
