Hello,

I have a system with 2 7950s in crossfire, this setup works great, but after i installed my new corsair 1600mHz 2 8gb sticks crossfire would just not work, pc just crashes whenever it is activated. I reinstalled amd crimson and used the amd cleanuputility too. after the 4th reinstall crossfire finally seemed to work. But how wrong could i be, i activated it, played a game for 20 seconds. freeze. retry. black screen and monitor loses connection. retry, bluescreen. retry, screen goes red and reboots. i tried all kinds of different ram setups they all crashed when playing a game. currently im checking either card because i think the fault is over there.

RIG SPECS:

windows 10
2 amd r hd 7950 DD normal edition (xfx pine group)
i7 2600K
8gb ram
amd catalyst version 15.11.1
MOBO MSI P67A-GD80 (MS-7672) version 2.0 and serialnumber "To be filled by O.E.M."

Kind regards,
Pim

Hello again!

I recently decided that quitting is not my middle name and i checked the PCI-e cables again, i pulled some things off of eachother and i found this...
a 6pin pci-e cable with only 3 cables in it, is used for my second gpu, it is also splitted into 2 6pin pci-e cables

It seems that what AMD has to load into memory for the game to take advantage of crossfire just doesn't like your new memory. I would try running memory diagnostics by pressing Win+R to open Run then typing in "mdsched" without quotation marks to run memory diagnostics. Please post back with results

Have you tried to go back to your original RAM. I'm not saying its the RAM, but since your problems began then, it's worth a shot.

I have one of those same cards. Double Life Time Warranty. It was one of their last cards to carry it. Now they have the same warranty everyone else has. I used it to get a new fan for card. One of the two seized up, they shipped me out a fan right away and put a link in my ticket for the exact procedure to change it out.

yes, i have tried that,already

You have two options, you can download a bootable USB version or a DVD/CD ISO. Once you have whichever you've chosen made, you boot from it. It will start to run the tests, no need for intervention. I would allow it to run for at least 4 hours, longer if you can. Sometimes it takes awhile before errors start to appear.

This sounds like a motherboard problem seeing as it won't take memory that we can assume is good since it was working when you took it out... I would try flashing the BIOS to the newest version available, to eliminate BIOS as the source of the problem

i didnt see that option anywhere but there is an OC genie button which, i think, overclocks the mobo for ram, something like that idk..

the newest version states
"MSI recommend you to update BIOS with ME8 only if you are using IvyBridge 22nm CPU."
i dont know if i have that

They mean that it's not a required upgrade unless your CPU demands it, but the fact that it works at all means that your CPU doesn't demand it. I would do it anyway, though. I upgraded the BIOS on my motherboard every time a new one came out, although you don't have to do that. Many people will be fine with the original BIOS.

May be worth stating that I have an Asus board... I trust MSI much more for graphics cards than I do for motherboards
