Could a Gigabyte 970A-DS3P run an AMD fx 8350

Solution
Where did you look in windows? task manager? That tells you the current cpu speed, when at idle the cpu will dynamically lower its clock speed to save power. Put the computer under load and it should jump up to 4ghz.

That Gigabyte GA-78LMT board should run an 8530 just fine (I used to have one) who said it wouldn't? I wouldn't overclok an 8350 on that board but it should be fine at stock settings. The gigabyte 970a board would be fine as well, you could probably get a decent overclock on that board too.

The problem I had with the 78lmt-s2p was that for some reason my new CPU is only showing up as 2.81ghz acprrding to wondows, it should be running at 4ghz. In a previous thread I created someone told me that this was due to my motherboard only having something like 95v when my CPU needed 125v or something, can't remember the details.

Use prime95 to put the cpu under load or anything that will give the cpu something to do, then check your speeds again with cpu-z it should go up.

I seem to be getting a solid 2.81ghz, with the occasional dipp, when playing games that I am pretty sure are quite CPU intensive. As for performance I haven't noticed much of a difference between this one and my old one which odd, but this one is a lot louder, the case gets hotter and I have had the occasional spotainous shut down and then instant restart. Also with the statement the my motherboard does support the CPU, do u mean my current one or the one I am planning to upgrade to?

Your current one, look at the gigabyte link I posted above.
