I have just built a new PC, using an Asus h81m plus motherboard. When it boots to the BIOS it only shows a small square with the mouse in it, the rest of the screen is black, I then move the mouse and where the mouse goes it reveals the screen. I can also see that the resolution is obviously wrong as only a portion of the BIOS is visible. So I cannot access any menu to install an operation system.

I am using the HDMI port from my motherboard to a TV.

The splash screen always displays fine and at the correct resolution.

Hardware:
I5-4670k
Kingston hyper x fury 8gb 1600
Seagate barracuda 500gb
Asus h81m-plus
Evga 500w

Yes I thought that but the fact that the splash screen looks correct suggests that it does. The TV is 720p and it looks to me that the BIOS is outputting at 1080 as I can only see a portion of it

Yes this worked, thanks alot for your help, I'm installing my operating system now.

So does this mean that the bios will never work with hdmi to my tv (wrong resolution/refresh rates?), hopefully I will be able to switch to hdmi when the operating system is installed as i want to be able to get sound to my telly, I may just have to use vga whenever i want to access the bios.

Thanks again.
