This is for a completely new build. I haven't built a system in a long time, so I might be way off the mark here.

I've noticed that the cost is comparable (approx $200 for the R9 380, or $113 each for the R7 370).

I'm considering the ASRock 990fx Extreme6 motherboard (regardless of GPU selection).

Would I get more bang for the buck using CrossFire and two of the R7s? Is there something else out there in the $230 range that I should consider instead? My budget is flexible, so if something is just outside the range but would make a big difference I'm cool with that.

Oh, and FreeSync is an important feature to me.

I'm probably not going to buy for another month or so, but even if something is likely to change before then, I'd like to know the answer about this "as of today", just to get a feel for if I'm going in the right direction for designing my system.

The games in my immediate line-up would be Halo 5, Fallout 4, and Street Fighter 5, if that makes a difference.

Thanks,
Daniel.

Good to know about the DX < 12. Didn't occur to me that would be a constraint.

Anyway, I'm future-proofing not by buying a more expensive version, but by buying cheap enough to be prepared to upgrade.
