Not sure whats wrong with my system but i feel like it should run stuff better then it does. my pc specs are
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-Core Processor

Memory: 16 GB RAM

Graphics card: Sapphire r9 390 nitro

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P ATX AM3+/AM3

usually around 25-40fps with most games on medium overall settings. and too many to list . but i feel like my system should be able to run most games better then it does.

most new stuff like, siege , divsion, blade and soul, etc. and i run at 1920x1200* usually, thats what looks best on my monitor

couple easy things you can do to get some more performance:

first, i would overclock the CPU to ~4.5GHz with a good aftermarket CPU cooler. if it handles that well, try it at 4.8GHz.

install Windows 10 on a nice SSD.
install games on a separate larger SSD. or at least a good 7200rpm HD.

shadows and AA(anti-aliasing) are usually the biggest hit to performance. turn shadows, AA & post processing down one notch lower than usual. maybe then turn texture or other character & item details up a bit.

i have liquid cooling hooked up to my cpu, not sure what kind it is, had it done with ibuypower. is it hard to overclock?
also would it be better to possibly upgrade to a i7 or i5 processor, ive heard fx8350 isnt really that great

i wouldn't bother upgrading the FX. your 8320 will get the same performance as the 8350 when running at the same speeds.

my 8350 at 4.8GHz stayed between 45-60fps with a 4GB GTX 770 running all the newest games at the time(2013-14) at a mix of high-ultra settings at 1080p. thats' pretty similar to what you have, but your GPU and amount of RAM are better.

now with the newest games(Fallout 4, Dying Light: EE, GTAV) my i7 4790K at 4.6GHz and an 8GB 290X can easily sit right at 60fps with ultra settings on any game at 1080p. turn down anti-aliasing a bit and can do 60fps with ultra at 1440p.

search here at Tom's for guides to overclocking your FX CPU. i would try that first. if you're still not content with the performance after overclocking; start the upgrade process.

ok thank you, would the r9 390 be on similar par with a gtx980? like close to it? also does ssd really help game performance not just load times?

980 would be better than a 390 for sure. but a 390X would be a better deal with the right price.

your 390 should be good for quite a while now. with a nice Z97 or Z170 board and i5/i7 at good speeds you should be getting quite a bit better performance than most people.

SSDs will help with games in certain scenarios. if running on a really low end system it would make more of a notable improvement than with higher end CPU/GPUs. if you're system is already maxing out games than it will probably only improve start & load times.

so if i can try to upgrade to a better board and cpu? any solid recomendations on either i5 or i7?

i love my Z97 & 4790K but many will show that an i5 at the same speeds will play most modern games very near the same.

it depends on what platform you want to jump to; either Z97 or Z170.
Z170 is using the newer DDR4 RAM and offers more options. i5 6600K would be a good choice.
Z97 you could keep your existing RAM and get a 4690K.

so i5 6600k with the z97 would be good to upgrade to?
