Howdy guys. I have a ASrock Z97 Anniversary mobo and a i7 4790k cpu. The computer is a ibuypower and it came with A-Tuning installed. The cpu is overclocked to 4.4 and runs kind of hot. I wanted to run at the stock 4.0.
The a-tuning had a preset that would do 3.9 and the temp would drop way down and stay really cool. I had to open the program every time I turned the pc on, and load this setting.
I figured if I uninstalled the a-tuning that it might just run stock at 4.0, with all stock voltage and such. It did not. I think it is factory overclocked in the bios.
I flashed the bios, and it is still running above stock. How do I make the cpu run at the stock values? I don't know much about overclocking, and I don't want any over clocking.
How do I get this cpu to run at factory spec? I am at a real loss here.

Does ASRock overclock the bios? How do I make it just run normal?

Solution
Haswell has an integrated voltage regulator, so the CPU is fed 1.8v and steps it down to whatever it needs.

Vcore of 0.937 sounds like what it would use at idle. I'd expect it to be closer to 1.25v under load.
4790K by default will turbo up to 4.4ghz on one core. This is normal stock CPU behavior. Turbo for 4 cores should be 4.2ghz.

See here: http://ark.intel.com/products/80807/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_40-GHz

You might have a feature called "multi core enhancement" enabled in BIOS, which would bump 4-core turbo up to 4.4ghz. If you find this enabled, you can disable it.

How hot is your CPU running, though? That CPU doesn't throttle until 100c, and will happily run at 80-90c without complaint for longer than you'll have the computer.

I would check the temps using the a-tuning program. I have a water cooler. I was getting around 48 to 60 under load. It use to run much cooler than that though. And my favorite game is not optimized well, and it runs better the cooler the cpu is. My pc broke down, they replaced the water cooler, mobo, gpu, and cpu. Before all that it would idle at 28, and do 38 to 42 under load. And it ran like a dream. I also think the cpu was running closer to 4ghz.
So I figured if I could get it to run at 4ghz all the time, I would be back to those cool temps, and my cpu would last longer. Now my idle is in the low 40's after I am gaming. And mid 30's when I start it up.

I will double check the "multi core enhancement", but I think I have it off. I just figured since it is advertised as a 4ghz cpu, that it ran at 4ghz stock. I dont know much about this stuff. But I know I like the temps lower.

I put a-tuning back on so I could look at some stuff. The profile that made it run close to 4.0ghz, and brought the temp way down had less voltage than this. But this is what it currently shows:

4.4mhz, cpu ratio 44X (in bios it is set to 40 i think) CPU temp 34c, (I have not put it under load yet) I will not run that cool even hours after gaming.

CPU Input Voltage 1.8 volts, Vcore Volt.937

The voltages and such are just fine? Nothing is to high? I just want everything to be ok and I want to try and get plenty of life out of my cpu. If they are made to run at 4.4, then I am fine with that. I just assumed they were designed to run at 4.0.
The voltages seemed high to me, but I dont know much about what the voltage should be. I wish I had not unistalled the a-tuning, because that one profile was nice to clock down close to 4ghz with lower voltage. But I have no idea how to do that myself. I dont know what the voltages are suppose to be at 4ghz.

and should I uninstall the a-tuning again? Do I need that program? I like using the fan speed adjustment on it. But I dont know if I uninstall if if the changes still stay or not.
I am so confused by all of this.
