Stuck between two similar GPUs (R9 380 vs. R9 380X)

I am trying to decide which GPU to upgrade to. I am looking at two Sapphire cards, my last card was a Sapphire Radeon HD 6750 and it has served me very well for the last 5 years. My problem is, between the two cards, they are very similar, and I am trying to justify spending the almost $50 extra on the better card. Is the 380X worth the extra 50 bucks? Does anybody have an suggestions? Which should I get?

they are near to the the same card though one is stating it is an "X" version. they are running the same speeds, with the same cooler. between these two definitely go for the cheaper 100384NT4GOC-2L.

if going for a 380X make sure it is 8GB.

The same could be said for the 380x as well though and an overclock would yield more on the 380x. Let's also not forget that the 380 already has high clock speed and many of them cannot clock much, if at all, above stock.

There's a 380x with 8Gb? Last I knew the 380x was a 4Gb card, same as a 380, had to go with a 390 or better to get 8Gb.

Stick with the 380. In the past, the 'solid' number cards had much less problems than their 'X' counterparts. Considering this gen of cards isn't much more than a revamp of the older 200 series, I can't see that as changing much.

i dont think a 8gb model exists and even if it did a 380 is not fast enough to put the full 8gb to good use
but that is true the x counterparts are most of the time less reliable the worst was the 290x. last gen the only "x" i would get was the 270x

I didn't think so either, yet many of the above posts advise getting the 380, but going for the 8Gb version if a 380x. I've not come across one yet, in any brand, so it's a moot point as far as I'm concerned, choices being nitro 380 or nitro 380x, I'd stick with the 380. X cards were notorious for coil whine., although that can usually be mitigated with a slight OC or over/undervolt of the gpu.

the only thing i could think of is the not too common 8gb 290x from sapphire that im not even 100% is real

there was quite a few nice 8GB 290X manufactured. one example:

Yeah, there are no R9 380x 8 GB versions, that was my slip up. R9 290x with 8 GB of RAM is a beast of a card.
