I mistakenly purchased an R9 290x and I really shouldn't have a few months ago, was prepping for the DLC for the Witcher 3 and wanted to run in high gliding vsync at 4k resolution and was going to buy two of them. Didn't research and was made aware recently these gpu's cant do 60hz at 4K resolution, 60hz only is available at 1900x. Since then, I've moved to a small case that can just hardly fit the single 290x in there.

What other single GPU can run The Witcher 3 on high settings, no hairworks (I dont care for it) at 3840x2160, but with 60 hz monitor active and vsync on in game.

I've a sony 350es 4K projector now and AMD 's 290x blocks me from selecting 60hz at this resolution. I know that a single 290x can't handle this game at 4k 60hz, but what other GPU's can? Can any GPU run Witcher 3 at 4k 60fps?

Solution
Even a single 980Ti won't cut it at 4k for 60fps, your looking at 2x980Ti's. However you should wait for the new GPU's launching in June/July as there might be a single card option as the new generation are expected to be a big step up in power

I get 45-55FPS at 1440p with all the eye candy on maximum. 6700K at 4.6Ghz and a 980 Ti. The new generation of cards coming in the next few months should finally allow for a single card that is 4K capable.

I have no idea about the 60Hz thing though.

On ultra settings, you need 2 980ti's in SLI to run at 60+ at 4k (Hairworks off)

Can anyone confirm in the Fury/Nano from AMD support 60hz at 4K for desktop non gaming needs? When a video on the net for example has 60fps options, I switch to 1900x res and set to 60hz on the desktop so I can get that slick feel. I game with that as well now, it is hard to go back for me. But, it amazes me that the gpu tech is that far behind the actual rendering tech of the games. Amazing that Witcher 3 is that far ahead for graphics needs at 4k.

Ugh, I want 4k 60fps so bad haha. My god, the game looks so good. It is playable at 4k with the 290x, but low fps rate kills the experience. However, there is such a difference in quality from 1900x to 3840 lol...I play on a 150 inch screen so it is really easy to see quality differences between everything. Even at 1900x with 60hz active vsync, the game looks and plays so slick that I find myself addicted to it.

Soon 4k will be common.
When the next consoles launch, they will almost definitely have multiple GPUs in them. This will make devs optimize for multiple GPU setups, making 4k more viable.
