MSI NVIDIA GTX 970 Gaming VS. MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GD5T OC

There is not much difference. The OC card has its GPU cores clocked at 1102 Mhz and uses a black and white color scheme. The Gaming card has its GPU cores clocked at 1140 Mhz and uses a black and red color scheme. You can overclock either card further than those settings if you want.

Have fun!

Thanks for the response…

If I understand this correctly them the two cards other than color and stock speed are the same and I could over clock the two cards at the same level? The 4gd5t is like 50$ cheaper and would get that one and then paint the white part over or go to water cooling.

It is true that the faster clocked cards are binned with better chips from manufacturers, so that some of the chips that did not qualify for the higher speed may be put into slower cards. The two cards that you are looking at are both overclocked, so the difference is very small. You may be able to overclock the Gaming card slightly faster than an OC card, but it would only be a few Mhz since their stock speeds are only 38Mhz apart. From the results in overclocking forums, this means that you may get up to a 20Mhz faster overclock on a Gaming card or you may get an identical overclock. Practically speaking, this will not make a difference in any games.

Basically, it comes down to what color scheme you want and if the more expensive card is worth the different color and chance of a slightly better overclock.

Personally, I would just buy the card that works best with the color scheme I am using and call it good.

Have fun!

Nobody bins GM204s...nobody. You are just as likely to get a high end 970 with an ASIC of 69%, as you are of getting that same card with an ASIC of 89%. In fact, I'd say your chances of receiving a sub 70% ASIC high end card, are MUCH more likely, than receiving one with a really high ASIC.
