Likely the hard drive is cluttered and fragmented. Type defrag in the start menu to open up the hard drive defrag tool. Run it. Also you shouldnt have your disk completly full. I recommend having about 5% free.

If you have the cash you can pick up a SSD HD for under $50 us and clone/replace your current HD that will make the laptop feel faster. That laptop is rather old so not much else you can do (a full reload would also probably speed it up).
