My laptop was not detecting my external hard drive in File Explorer, so I went into disk management where a pop up asked me to initialise my hard drive. Unaware of consequences, I just clicked Yes and then later I unplugged the hard drive, while the process was still going on (I guess it was). That made my hard drive to go to GPT Partition. It shows healthy but on right clicking, all the options are blocked, except for Help option. I still can see the hard drive in Disk Management but not in explorer. I'm using Win 10. Please help me recover the hard drive, if possible, without loosing data.

Well, the warranty will not be voided if you use any of the tools being mentioned.
My suggestion would be to try using some other data recovery tool. There are quite a lot of threads on that in the forum. It is strange that the HDD is not picked up by the tool.
Both re partitioning and zero writing are data destructive. So, you need to try at least several recovery tools before doing these.

Hi there Er_Adil,

That is really unpleasant. :(

Unfortunately, initialization is a data destructive process. Yet, I believe it will not hurt to try using some data recovery tools and see if you will be able to retrieve at least some of the data.
Here's a thread on that: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html

Help is the only option that you get right? If this is the case, you will need to use some third party tool in order to repartition the drive. You can even write zeros on it with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool(this is a process that fills in zero value in each sector). Keep in mind that this is data destructive and you need to recover the data first if possible. After that, you can run both short and extended DLG tests in order to check the drive's health.

Apart from all this, it will not hurt to attach the drive with a different USB cable to another system and see if the issue persists.

WD's DLG tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=1DVLVg

Let me know how this goes,

First of all, thanks for the help. Now, I want to repeat that I unplugged the drive during the initializing process, and before that, I was not able to see the drive in "My Computer". I tried using Recuva Recovery Tool from the link you mentioned, but I'm not able to locate my drive in the browse option. Another computer as well as the cable are not working either. Further I wanted to ask if the recovery would be be possible after using the WD Lifeguard tool or the Re-partitioning tool, and will my warranty be voided doing that? It would be a great help if you could suggest some re-partitioning tool. Once again, thanks for helping me out.

Hey D_Know_WD,
Thanks a lot for help. I have started the EaseUS manager from the link you mentioned and its up and running. It has started to show me the files I had on my drive, so probably it'll recover it (fingers crossed). I will update you on the progress. And really, I can't thank u enough.. And, sorry about that -1 on ur answer, it was a mis-click, I tried upping it but the site didn't allow me, hope you won't mind..
