Just got a new l7 (32GB RAM) with a 128GB SSD with Win10Pro installed and 2TB data drive. Separately I purchased a Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD drive. For best performance, should I add the Samsung as a 2nd drive, or use it in a raid with the 128GB drive, or replace the 128 altogether? I'm not a gamer but I do use Photoshop and am trying to avoid bottlenecks. Thanks in advance.

None whatsoever. Just use Samsung's own data migration software http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/global/html/support/downloads.html

It's actually so easy you wouldn't believe :))

When you say you want to replace it as a second drive do you mean as a replacement for your 2TB data drive? For best performance double SSD's would obviously outperform an SSD + HD combo. However you would need to compromise on storage space. I would much rather prefer you replace the 128GB with the new SSD and use it as a boot/startup drive. I'd keep the core files and most frequently used applications on it, including as you mentioned Photoshop, all other files/data would dump on the HD. You shouldn't need RAID setup since you already have a storage and SSD drive. Keep them separate.

Keep all three. Migrate or install fresh on the 512 850 pro and use the old ssd for less used games and as a scratch disk for photoshop. RAID is pointless.

Thanks folks. The 128GB SSD isn't old - it's brand new with the system and I couldn't replace it with the 512GB when I ordered it because it was a "built" system - that's why I purchased it separately. But using it as a scratch disk makes perfect sense. I just wonder if I'll run into any problems migrating Win10 from the 128 to the 512 SSD????

Like a charm. The new drive comes bare (the box doesn't tell you that) so I had to rummage to find an extra SATA cable and then connect the old drive to the side of the bay because it didn't come with a bracket either (luckily they don't weigh anything so those two screws should do just fine). Currently moving my old data over to the new data drive and then it's off to get antivirus and reinstall all my software - Oh the joy!!!!

Thanks again for all your help. I knew I'd find the solution on this site.
