Somehow, my system configuration has become corrupted. Windows 7 Pro 32bit no longer recognizes my CD-DVD/RW Drive Correctly. Shows up as "ATAPI iHAS224 B ATA Device" in Device Manager and "CD Drive" in Windows Explorer.

I remember that the drive did include LightScribe abilities. I have made no major hardware changes to the system except to upgrade from Win 7 Home Premium to Professional. (Had to reinstall windows on a brand new PC by way of setting such a good administrator password that even the administrator (me) couldn't remember it and (foolish lad I am) did not write it down :(!

I tend to do a lot of downloading and I'm wondering if something got installed that shouldn't have been there (whatever it was really screwed up my System Configuration).

Neither accessing Pre-windows boot system settings nor running any of Microsoft's half-a***d Fix It Downloads has resolved my issue. I believe it is a Lite-On CD-DVD/RW with Lightscribe Ability but I can't seem to find the legitimate driver for it anywhere.

It is a Cybertron Gaming PC no more than 3 years old. The drive came default with the PC.

If you don't have the original documentation, try running Belarc Advisor which may pick up the original hardware. When we complete a build, we always run Belarc, print the output and place a copy of the MoBo box with all other hardware odds and ends and documentation / CDs. If correct drivers are not found Windows will install generic ones.

As many of Win10 users have found out, Windows Update has borked their machines by replacing manufacturer drives with ones whose source is unknown. You can turn this off.

I did actually upgrade to windows 10 via the free upgrade offer... then had to reinstall windows 7 pro when I found out that 98.99% of my programs were rendered useless thanks to Microsoft's foolishness.

Had to reinstall windows three times already and have sent this particular unit in for repairs an equal number of times. Repair - No. Replace - YES.

Before you kill off your p.c., Have you tried replacing that drive? You are correct, according to that model number it is a LiteOn drive, and much as I trust LiteOn - or used to trust them - I have had several simply stop functioning correctly after a very short time. Darn things don't cost but about $20 anymore - buy an ASUS or Samsung and stick it in there and see if it works: Or even borrow a working drive from another computer and try it.

Unfortunately I'm not comfortable dealing with PC Components themselves.. I have very little experience in this and I seem to be better at taking things apart than putting them together. I've had this PC repaired so many times that it no longer seems worth it. Thank you for your advice though :).

They aren't difficult to replace. If you are good at taking things apart you should have no trouble getting the drive out; just remember or write down what you did to get it out. Don't force anything. Put it back together in reverse order. The manual for your PC (assuming it is a pre-built unit not a custom or home built computer) should be on line and will show you how to get into the PC and replace the CD/DVD drive.
