Hello again,

I ordered parts and assembled a new budget game desktop for a friend.
Everything is new (2 days old). Installed windows and everything on it without issues.

First game i start to test the system out, it crashes 2 minutes into the game.
I tried lowering the setting but even at lowest setting it crashed

The desktop should be suitable enough to play most games at minimum settings..

Intel Core i5 4450 @3.20
AMD R7 370 MSI
Asrock Z97 Anniversery
Corsair cs650m Psu
8 Gb RAM

I did a test with furrmark at preset 720p. Pc crashed in about 10 seconds. No BSOD.

After the crash the pc keeps running and i see a black screen with gray vertical lines.

Ay idea what might be going on here?

Edit: a furmark test on the lowest resolution and not fullscreen: pc crashed immediately:
result: Completely blue screen. No BSOD, its not even the BSOD blue color, its darker.

Edit 2: Immediately after restarting after the first edit, i only see half a screen.. the left half is black.
Seems to me that that points towards the gpu right?
The following restarts seem to be normal again

Edit 3: As expected Youtube videos seem to crash the system as well after about 10 seconds.
Result = grey screen

10 seconds before the crash the cpu is at 40-45°C
Gpu is it 50-60°c

maybe worth mentioning: sometimes after crash i cant use the reset button, sometimes i can

Edit: Furmark @ 720
opened speccy next to it, CPU 45, GPU 50

i click the run button, pc crashes before furmark even changes screens

My system has an r9 380 and also a corsair cs650m. i suppose i could switch those.
but that case is near impossibe to close again, so i kind of hoped i did not have to open it xD
I have no way to test the CPU though

But that something for in the morning (although it is 6 am now) been at it all night now lol

So.. first things first, i started the system up today and it did not seem to get past the UEFI. Every time it boots it goes straight there.
In the UEFI's system browser (where i can see which components are inserted where) It seems the PCIe slot seems not to read the gpu.

I inserted my r9 380 from my other system, same issue.

EDIT: I am completely lost and don't know how to solve this. I took out the R7 370 and placed it in my own working system. Deleted the drivers from the old installation with DDU and reinstalled the drivers manually again.
Now this pc crashes aswell mid installation. same result black screen nd gray vertical lines.

While the other new system that holds my working r9 380 doesn't seem to get past the UEFI anymore with either GPU.

EDIT: Alright, it seems updating the mobo fixed that, so it appears the r9 works in the new system but the r7 seems to do the same things (crash mid installation of its drivers with black screen and grey lines).

so.. is it safe to assume the GPU is a bad one?

side info: the system seems to crash randomly, even when opening google chrome.. It has not done that at all while i was installing windows, or all the drivers, or all the software to make this pc usable.. So the system worked perfect for at least 5-6 hours.
And the moment i tested if the system was game ready, it crashed in the game and ever since it seems to randomly crash the same way everywhere. Not sure if this info is usefull, just throwing it out

if the same graphical errors are appearing on both screens I would definitely assume it is a bad card.

there's a slight chance it is the graphics driver being used, if the same package was installed on both systems, so maybe try an older one. could just be a conflict with that specific driver and the card. try one of the older Catalyst packages from before Crimson was released, i believe 15.**, or whatever install disc came with the card.

So if i uninstall the drivers, it does not crash... i can do whatever and it doesn't crash.
The moment i install the gpu driver it crashes.

And the moment windows starts up and loads the driver it crashes.

I will try what you said just now

i've had a couple of AMD packages cause page fault errors and crashes so this could be it. hopefully you guys get it worked out without having to RMA.

Installed an older driver.:AMD Catalyst.
Still crashes the pc, though i don't get fancy multicolored screens anymore. just black screens.

I supposed it is a faulty card? and it's not software related?

So, its shipped back to where it came from, and the GPU is going to be tested there. If the GPU is indeed faulty the shipping will stay on their costs and i'll get a replacement. If it's not faulty shipping costs are mine.

Now i hope it's a faulty GPU
