Hey guys, just curious if this has happened to anyone else.

I bought a new gtx 970 g1 and started overclocking it, and whenever it became unstable and crashed the driver, afterburner wouldn't respond and neither would gpu-z. my card would become undetected in speccy as well. i restarted my computer and everything went fuzzy and colourful. checked afterburner and everything was set to max! i quickly reset everything and all was fine.

So really i'm just asking, has this happened to anyone else? And have I also just decreased the life of my card by a substantial amount?

Cheers.

i doubt it would do any permanent damage if only for a few seconds-a minute.

i don't know what may cause a problem like that except maybe bad GPU firmware or bios.
seems the card is setting itself to those settings and Afterburner is just reading it. Afterburner usually needs the "apply" command to actually change anything itself. could also just be a bad reading if the card is dying and Afterburner is just picking up misinformation about the speeds/voltage.

did you notice any extra heat and/or noise being produced while the fuzzy colors were showing?
