the newer skylake mb and cpu is a better buy. on the gpu wait till the newer pascal and polairs gpu drop in june. there going to be faster for about the same amount of money.

Definitely get skylake (i3 6100) and ddr4 ram, but I wouldn't wait until pascal comes out as that's months away and they will only be coming out with the high end cards at first which an i3 will bottleneck

I wouldn't recommend getting a gtx 970 with an i3, best I'd recommend is gtx 960 or r9 380
and but then you'd also have enough money to get an i5

Your original build decent, but I'd suggest going with a DDR4 motherboard, and 2x4GB DDR4, instead of DDR3.

No need for a 700w power supply, since your whole PC will likely use less than 250w under torture testing. A quality 4-500w unit is plenty.

I also like DustinV's build. The i5 will hold its value longer, but the 970 + i3 will provide a better gaming experience today.
